Inhabitable Environment
Over 15 weeks, I transformed an old television into an inhabital environment. As you browse through the different pages, you will see the steps and transformations that were made, starting from the television and ending with my final video.
The first step: Deconstruction. I was to select a found object or appliance that contained a minimum of 30 parts. As I disassembled my television, I documented the process by photographing the significant properties and qualities of the parts, starting with the television as a whole all the way to the smaller parts.
The second step: Form Z Pieces. After disassembling the television, I recreated 30 parts virtually on the Form Z program. This page shows you my 15 best renderedd parts side by side with the real parts themselves.
The third step: Form Z Environment 1. This step was the beginning of creating the environment using my 30 parts. I was allowed to scale the parts to any size, repeat the parts as many times as I needed, but I could not transform their shape or form. The environement was not to look like any particular space. It was to be an abstract exploration of space, form, light, and color represented in a spacial model inhabitable by people. It also had to have a minimum of three spaces, ranging from large to small, and had to flow into each other in some way, yet still remaining distinct.
The fourth step: Form Z Environement 2: This is when I improved the overall quality of design by preserving the positive aspects of my environment. Unlick the previous step, I was aloud to transform the parts to any shape I wanted.
The fifth step: Model 1. In this step, I built my model three dimentionally with corrugated cardboard. The model was to be a developmental progression of ideas initiated on the computer.
The sixth step: Model 2. After critiquing the previous model, I created a revised and edited model constructed out of foam core. This model had to emphasize a higher level of quality, craft, and refinement compared to the model in the fifth step.
The seventh step: Form Z Environment 3. The seventh step was phase one of my final digital environment. The environment had to be revised and edited from the three dimensional model constructed in the sixth step. In this step, my environment no longer had to use the 30 parts originally created for this project but there had to be some quality that was retained from the more signigicant shapes I drew from the initial proposal.
The eighth step: Form Z Environment 4. The final stretch. Step eight was the final phase of the environment. I was to edit and perfect the last environment to make it finalized. During this phase, I was not satisfied with my previous environment, so I decided to start from a clean slate. Although it was hard to scrap everything I had done, I made the right decision. I'm 100% more satisfied with my final environment.
The ninth step: Final Video. This last step shows the entire 15 week process compacted into a 4:40 video. The music and words help show my journey through the transitions.
